What personal data I collect and why I collect it

On this webpage, I collect personally identifiable information and personally non-identifiable information.

Personally non-identifiable information I collect through analytics.google.com and wordpress.com, such as a location, gender, time of the login,  IP address,  details about your browser, length of visit to pages on my website, page views, details about the number of times you use my website, time zone settings, device you use when you view my webpage.

All such information cannot be linked to you as an individual.

I process these data to analyze the use of my website, to deliver relevant content, to understand the effectiveness of my content,  to grow my business and to decide my marketing strategy.

The personally identifiable information you provide to me when you sign up for my newsletter. This information is your email address, which is linked to the name and surname, if you choose to write those down.

I use this information (email address) to send you a newsletter which may include updates on my writing progress, YouTube videos I post on my YouTube channel, competitions, prize draws and free give-aways of my work, as well as notification of early releases, ARCs (advanced reader copy) announcements and special sales of my work.

I may use your email address to deliver relevant content and advertisements to you (including Facebook adverts or other display advertisements).

My lawful ground for this processing is legitimate interest which is to grow my business.

I do not collect any sensitive data about you.

Sensitive data refers to data that includes details about your race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, information about your health and genetic and biometric data.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Where I store your data

The data (email address and the name you provided) are stored at mailchimp.com, an email marketing company. For more information, please visit https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/

 

Who I share your data with

I will not share your personal data with any third party for their own marketing purposes.

I might share your personal data (email address) as necessary with third parties who provide services or functions on my behalf and who require the information to provide those specific services to me. For example, I might use your email addresses when building a marketing campaign with Facebook to build a lookalike population of potential customers to whom I want to show my advertisement.  Please note that I have appropriate data privacy safeguards in place with third parties with whom I share your personal data, and they have strict guidelines for dealing with your personal data according to the law.

I may have to share your personal data with the parties set out below:

  • Service providers who provide IT and system administration services.
  • Professional advisers including lawyers and/or auditors.
  • Government bodies if they require us to report processing activities.

Data retention

I will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes I collected it for, including the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.

In some circumstances, I may anonymize your personal data for research or statistical purposes in which case I may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Access and control over your personal data

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on my site you may opt-in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
