The first scene most writers write doesn’t necessarily happen at the beginning of the book. In most cases, the first scene that comes to my mind (and I assume this is the case for the other writers as well) is often the one that moves the story in a major way. It’s a shift on many different levels, but most importantly it’s a shift between characters. This scene in “Swift Escape” is one of my favorites and it is also the one I wrote first.
